About Local 420
Iron has long been produced in the Reading area, dating back to the American Revolution. Reading also was instrumental in building the country with the creation of several railroads through the region that successfully transported natural resources throughout the Northeast United States. Today, the members of Local 420 continue to build the region through the construction of structures and maintaining the various manufacturing plants in the area. Local 420 encompasses 9 counties throughout central and eastern Pennsylvania – Berks, Schuylkill, part of Lehigh, Lebanon, Lancaster, North Umberland, Carbon, Montgomery and Chester. We are more than 160 members strong who are well-trained and ready to work with and for our signatory contractors.

We are a Local Union chapter of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Ironworkers. We are also members of the Ironworkers District Council of Philadelphia and have taken a leadership role in various other organizations throughout central Pennsylvania.

You’ll find our work at the heart of a building’s structure. Our members erect the structural framework of buildings and also are essential in other projects, such as erecting bridges, reinforcing steel, blast furnaces, ornamental ironwork and power plants. Our skill set includes welding, sheeting and rigging all of which are taught by certified instructors in our training facility.

Local 420 uses its special skill set to give back to the community, donating time and labor to projects throughout the region.
